Understanding Inductor Color Codes

Inductor color codes are a standardized way to represent the inductance value and tolerance of an inductor. The color bands on an inductor provide this information at a glance.

Color Code Band Representation

A typical inductor has four color bands:

  • 1st Band: First significant digit
  • 2nd Band: Second significant digit
  • 3rd Band: Multiplier
  • 4th Band: Tolerance

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the inductance value in the input field
  2. Select the unit (µH, mH, or H) from the dropdown
  3. Click the "Calculate" button
  4. The calculator will display the corresponding color bands and their values

Example

For an inductor with a value of 470 µH and ±5% tolerance:

  • 1st Band (Yellow): 4
  • 2nd Band (Violet): 7
  • 3rd Band (Brown): × 10
  • 4th Band (Gold): ±5% tolerance
