Understanding Capacitor Codes

Capacitor codes are used to indicate the capacitance value and sometimes the tolerance of a capacitor. The most common types of codes are:

  • 3-digit code: The first two digits represent significant figures, and the third digit is the multiplier.
  • 4-digit code: Similar to the 3-digit code, but with an additional significant figure.
  • EIA-96 code: A letter followed by two digits, used for high-precision capacitors.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the capacitor code as printed on the capacitor.
  2. Select the appropriate code type from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click "Calculate" to see the decoded capacitance value.

Example Calculation

For a capacitor marked "104":

  • 10 * 10^4 pF = 100,000 pF = 100 nF = 0.1 µF
