Noise Rating (NR) Calculator
What is Noise Rating (NR)?
Noise Rating (NR) is a method used to assess noise levels in various environments. It takes into account the frequency content of the noise and provides a single number rating that represents the overall noise level.
How to Use the Calculator
- Enter the Sound Pressure Level (SPL) for each octave band frequency (63 Hz to 8 kHz).
- Click the "Calculate" button to determine the Noise Rating (NR).
- The result will show the calculated NR value and its interpretation.
Interpretation of NR Values
- NR 25-30: Suitable for bedrooms, recording studios
- NR 30-35: Appropriate for living rooms, private offices
- NR 35-40: Acceptable for general offices, classrooms
- NR 40-45: Suitable for cafeterias, sports halls
- NR 45-55: Appropriate for workshops, industrial areas
- NR 55+: Potentially harmful, hearing protection may be required
This calculator helps acousticians, engineers, and building designers assess noise levels and ensure appropriate acoustic environments for various spaces.
