Body Adiposity Index (BAI) and Body Mass Index (BMI) are two different measures used to assess body composition and health risks associated with body fat.
BAI is a method of estimating body fat percentage. It uses hip circumference and height in its calculation:
\[BAI = \frac{\text{Hip Circumference (cm)}}{\text{Height (m)}^{1.5}} - 18\]BMI is a simple measure that uses height and weight to work out if your weight is healthy. The BMI calculation divides an adult's weight in kilograms by their height in metres squared:
\[BMI = \frac{\text{Weight (kg)}}{\text{Height (m)}^2}\]While both BAI and BMI are used to assess body composition, they have different strengths and limitations:
