About Baby Blood Type Calculator

The Baby Blood Type Calculator is a tool designed to help expectant parents or those planning to have children predict the possible blood types of their future baby. By inputting the blood types of both parents, the calculator provides a list of potential blood types for the child based on genetic inheritance patterns.

How Blood Type is Inherited

Blood type is determined by the presence or absence of certain antigens on the surface of red blood cells. The ABO blood type system, which is the most important for blood transfusions, is inherited through multiple alleles of a single gene:

  • A allele: Produces A antigen
  • B allele: Produces B antigen
  • O allele: Produces no antigen

Each person inherits one allele from each parent. The A and B alleles are codominant, meaning if a person inherits both, they will have AB blood type. The O allele is recessive, so it only expresses itself if a person inherits O from both parents.

Possible Inheritance Patterns

Here are some examples of possible inheritance patterns:

  • If both parents have type A blood, the child could have A or O blood type.
  • If one parent has type A and the other has type B, the child could have A, B, AB, or O blood type.
  • If one parent has type AB and the other has type O, the child will have either A or B blood type.
