What is a Body Shape Calculator?

A Body Shape Calculator is a tool used to determine an individual's body type based on their measurements. It takes into account the bust, waist, and hip measurements to categorize the body into different shapes such as Hourglass, Rectangle, Inverted Triangle, or Pear.

The Formula

The body shape is determined by calculating ratios between different body measurements:

  1. Bust-to-Waist Ratio: \[BWR = \frac{Bust}{Waist}\]
  2. Hip-to-Waist Ratio: \[HWR = \frac{Hip}{Waist}\]
  3. Waist-to-Hip Ratio: \[WHR = \frac{Waist}{Hip}\]

Where:

  • Bust, Waist, and Hip are measurements in centimeters or inches

Calculation Steps

  1. Measure bust, waist, and hip circumferences
  2. Calculate Bust-to-Waist Ratio (BWR)
  3. Calculate Hip-to-Waist Ratio (HWR)
  4. Calculate Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) if needed
  5. Determine body shape based on these ratios

Body Shape Determination

  • Hourglass: |BWR - HWR| ≤ 0.2 and WHR < 0.75
  • Rectangle: BWR < 1.05 and HWR < 1.05
  • Inverted Triangle: BWR > HWR
  • Pear: HWR > BWR

Example Calculation

Let's calculate the body shape for a person with the following measurements:

  • Bust: 92 cm
  • Waist: 76 cm
  • Hip: 98 cm
  1. Calculate BWR:
    \[BWR = \frac{92}{76} = 1.21\]
  2. Calculate HWR:
    \[HWR = \frac{98}{76} = 1.29\]
  3. Calculate WHR:
    \[WHR = \frac{76}{98} = 0.78\]
  4. Determine body shape:
    |BWR - HWR| = |1.21 - 1.29| = 0.08 ≤ 0.2, but WHR = 0.78 ≥ 0.75
HWR > BWR, so this indicates a Pear shape.

Visual Representation

This visual representation shows the calculated body shape for the example measurements. The blue ellipse represents the bust, the green ellipse represents the waist, and the red ellipse represents the hips. The relative sizes of these ellipses illustrate the Pear shape, where the hips are larger than the bust.
