Understanding Multiples

What are Multiples?

Multiples are the products of a number and an integer. In other words, when you multiply a number by whole numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.), you get its multiples.

Formula for Multiples

The general formula for finding multiples is:

\[M_n = a \times n\]

Where:

  • \(M_n\) is the nth multiple
  • \(a\) is the number we're finding multiples of
  • \(n\) is a positive integer (1, 2, 3, ...)

Calculation Steps

Let's find the first 5 multiples of 7:

  1. Identify the number: \(a = 7\)
  2. Calculate multiples:
    • \(M_1 = 7 \times 1 = 7\)
    • \(M_2 = 7 \times 2 = 14\)
    • \(M_3 = 7 \times 3 = 21\)
    • \(M_4 = 7 \times 4 = 28\)
    • \(M_5 = 7 \times 5 = 35\)

Example and Visual Representation

Multiples of 7 1 x 7 = 7 2 x 7 = 14 3 x 7 = 21 4 x 7 = 28 5 x 7 = 35
